Circuit working principle:
The TIP36 transistor and resistor R4 form an expansion circuit. The resistor R5 is a leakage resistor, which is used to activate the internal circuit of LM317
The working current does not exceed the base current of the TIP36 transistor. Resistance R4 is a short-circuit protection resistor. When the current exceeds the limit value during a short circuit, the voltage drop on resistance R4 increases, causing a decrease in the emission junction voltage of TIP36, resulting in TIP36 not being able to conduct. The current copper tube R5 flows into the input terminal of LM317. As the current exceeds the maximum output current of LM317, the internal overcurrent protection and overheat protection circuits of LM317 will work, automatically reducing the output current of LM317, thereby achieving short-circuit protection.
